Karuna Canine is the training and behavior practice of Dr. John Trimper, a PhD in Neuroscience and Animal Behavior with Certificate in Training & Counseling from the Academy for Dog Trainers. Services are grounded in science, built on compassion, and tailored to reduce stress for both dogs and the people who care for them.
John specializes in behavior concerns such as fear and aggression, with an approach that prioritizes each dog’s emotional well-being and species-typical needs. Every plan is practical, individualized, and focused on long-term relief.
Karuna Canine offers both in-person services in Southeast Michigan and virtual consultations for clients elsewhere.

Dr. John Trimper, PhD, CTC is a certified canine behavioral consultant and trainer.
Using 100% force-free and fear-free techniques, John is well versed in the most effective and safe methods for improving pet-dog behavior and owner/pet relationships. His extensive experience includes volunteering at animal shelters, day-training dogs, one-on-one coaching, and private behavioral consultations.
John’s holds a PhD in Neuroscience and Animal Behavior (Emory University, 2016), and earned his Certificate in Training and Counseling (CTC) from The Academy for Dog Trainers, renowned for its rigorous, evidence-based curriculum. With his compassionate approach, expert coaching, and deep behavioral insights, John is the ideal candidate for helping owners reach their canine behavior goals.
